School Policies

Valencia College has an extensive list of official policies and procedures that pertain to all students. Some of the most important policies are outlined here.


 

IMPORTANT SCHOOL POLICIES

FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)

This law is designed to protect the privacy of educational records. Personally identifiable information from student records, such as grades, VID, ethnic background and class schedules are confidential and will not be released to anyone other than the student, and never over the phone. If you would like your parents to be able to access your records, you will need to file special paperwork.

Smoke-Free Campus

Valencia is a smoke-free college. Smoking on any of Valencia’s property (including outdoor areas and parking lots) is a violation and is subject to disciplinary action.

No Drugs or Alcohol on Campus

Students are prohibited from the possession, sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages or drugs on campus. The possession or consumption of drugs or alcoholic beverages at off-campus college functions shall be governed by the laws of the community.

Equal Access–Equal Opportunity

Valencia supports equality of opportunity and access to education for students. The college will not deny admission or participation in any educational program or activity on the basis of any legally prohibited discrimination including, but not limited to such factors as race, sex, national origin, color, religion, age, veterans status, sexual orientation, disability and marital status. The college will investigate charges of unlawful discrimination. This includes unfair treatment on the basis of race, age, religion, disability, color, marital status, sex, national origin and sexual orientation. Concerns and complaints should be directed to the Dean of Students on your campus.


Academic Dishonesty

All forms of academic dishonesty are prohibited at Valencia College. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, plagiarism, cheating, furnishing false information, forgery, alteration or misuse of documents, misconduct during a test situation, and misuse of identification with intent to defraud or deceive. All work submitted by students is expected to be the result of the students’ individual thoughts, research and self-expression. Whenever a student uses ideas, wording or organization from another source, the source shall be appropriately acknowledged.

Dropping Classes
  • Courses must be dropped by the Drop/Refund Deadline listed in the Important Dates and Deadlines calendar.
  • If you drop a course(s) by the Drop/Refund Deadline, all tuition and refundable fees will be refunded. (Application and certain other fees are not refundable.) These refunds are processed by the Business Office approximately 15 business days after the Drop/Refund Deadline and weekly thereafter.
Paying for Classes
  • If all charges are not paid by the Fee Payment Deadline, you risk being deleted from all of your courses.
  • Your fee payment deadline is based on the date that you register. To determine your specific payment deadline, check your Atlas account or the Important Dates and Deadlines calendar.
