Between year-round heat and spread-out shops and centers, Orlando is not the most walkable city. Even if you live close enough to campus to walk or ride your bike, you will likely need to rely on other modes of transportation to get around town. All of Valencia College’s seven campuses are near main roadways and bus routes, and the Winter Park Campus is near a commuter train station.

Driving by car is by far the quickest way to get around the Orlando area. If you do plan on driving, be sure to familiarize yourself with the Florida Driver's Handbook. Also, if you are in the U.S. longer than 90 days, you will need to obtain a Florida driver’s license from the Department of Motor Vehicles.


LYNX is the public bus system in Orlando and the surrounding areas. All Valencia College campuses have LYNX bus stops. Tickets range from $2 for a single ride to $50 for a 30-day unlimited ride pass for general public, free for Valencia College students.

Greyhound provides intercity bus transportation, with destinations across the U.S.


Taxi cabs are always on stand-by at the Orlando International Airport when you first arrive to Orlando. If you wish to be picked up from somewhere else, you typically will have to call a cab company, although some cabs are on stand-by in downtown Orlando. Taxis use metered rates in Orlando. From the airport, expect to pay $40 – $50 to most Orlando locations.


Sunrail is the commuter train that runs north and south to connect downtown Orlando to neighboring suburbs. Sunrail’s Station G is within walking distance of Valencia’s Winter Park Campus. Tickets range from $5.50 to $7.50 for a round trip.

Amtrak, the National Railroad Passenger Corporation, offers train routes throughout the U.S. There are train stations in Winter Park, near Valencia’s Winter Park Campus; in downtown Orlando, near Valencia’s Downtown Campus; and in Kissimmee, near Valencia’s Osceola Campus.
